[BSPI x CryptoBase Joint Project No.11] How do young VCs investing in Web3 look at the past and future of the Web3 industry? and think about it.

One of the major players supporting startups in the Web3 ecosystem is Venture Capital (hereafter referred to as VC). Their actions are always watched closely when predicting industry trends, and their investment amounts are widely reported, as shown below.

VC investment in Web3 companies is strong – over $30 billion in 2022 (Coindesk, January 10, 2023),” “Investment in Web3 startups continues to decline – down 82% YoY (ZDNET, April 21, 2023),” “Investment in blockchain games in February 2023 was 20.3 billion in February 2023 (Coin Choice, August 14, 2023)” etc.

VCs have supported the entrepreneurial era in the semiconductor and electronics industries in the past, supported the entrepreneurial era in the Internet industry, and continue to support entrepreneurship in the digital era. For entrepreneurs who create products and services using their ideas, technology, and passion, the presence of VCs, who provide funding and materials for their activities, is indispensable. Of course, VCs, as commercial enterprises, also use their discernment skills to find investment opportunities and make a profit, and not all investments are successful.

This time, we invited Ms. Kawahara, a young member of Incubate Fund who started investing in the blockchain industry relatively early among such VCs, and Mr. Murakami, a former VC who is now preparing to start his own company, to discuss from what perspective they have been looking at the Web3 and blockchain industries. What are their perspectives on the Web3 and blockchain industry? What are their perspectives on the Web3 and blockchain industry so far, and what are their future plans? We would like to ask them about their perspectives on the Web3 and blockchain industry, and to consider future developments.
