We are reporting on our presentation and participation in the “2023 Fintech Conference- Global Regulatory Landscape on Virtual Assets” hosted by the Taiwan FinTech Association.

On Thursday, February 23, 2023, Mr. Hida spoke at the “2023 Fintech Conference- Global Regulatory Landscape on Virtual Assets -USA, EU, Singapore, Japan. and UAE” hosted by the Taiwan FinTech Association. The event was held at the Grand Hyatt Taipei in Taipei and was attended by over 300 people, making it a popular event with a standing-room-only crowd.

Key players in the crypto asset and blockchain regulations from Taiwan, the U.S., EU, Singapore, Japan, and UAE gathered for presentations and panel discussions. Mr. Timothy George Massad, former commissioner of the CFTC in the U.S., explained how the CFTC is strengthening its regulation of crypto assets, and Mr. Peter Kerstens from the European Union (EU) presented the MiCA, a new framework to regulate crypto asset activities within the European Economic Area (EEA). The European Union is planning to introduce a new framework to regulate crypto asset activities in the European Economic Area, the “Crypto Asset Market Regulation (MiCA)”, which will be introduced by Peter Kerstens. Ms. Audrey Tang, Taiwan’s Minister of IT, gave a presentation on Taiwan’s initiatives for the Web3 world. From Japan, Joichi Ito(Joi), Director of the Center for Transformation at Chiba Institute of Technology, gave a talk session on one of the crypto asset ecosystems, fundraising, and Arisa Matsuzawa of the Japan Financial Services Agency gave a presentation on regulations for crypto asset exchanges in Japan and especially AML compliance. After that, Mr. Hida gave a presentation of only 10 minutes, introducing the Web3 policy of the Japanese government and the Liberal Democratic Party, and explaining the Nishikigoi NFT project in the former Yamakoshi Village and the e-Kaga citizens of Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture.

The purpose of the conference was for crypto asset exchanges and Web3 companies operating in Taiwan to communicate their requests to the Taiwanese government, which does not have a solid legal framework for crypto assets as Japan does. In the final session, representatives of Taiwanese crypto exchanges gave a talk session and then presented a written request to the former chairman of the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), Taiwan’s Financial Services Agency (FSA). This was a sign that the Taiwanese industry wanted to unite in communicating to the government how regulations are being enforced in each country.

I had the opportunity to speak with many people during and after the conference and made new connections. I would like to so much thank to Mrs. Jaclyn Tsai, President of the Taiwan FinTech Association, and her staff for the opportunity to speak and participate in this conference.
